BAWAC - Ballast water treatment
Shipping: the key to global logistics. Now and in the future.
Our job is to prevent the spread of microorganisms and organisms in the ballast water of ships. This means we must implement the IMO Resolution and its guidelines on ballast-water treatment as quickly as possible.
We have designed the Ballast Water Cleaner - BAWAC - for this purpose. A UV treatment system for ballast water.
With this system, we have done more than to meet the IMO gidelines - we have exceeded them!
The system is small, light, dynamic and can also be retrofitted into existing ships.
With BAWAC on board, you are able to sail freely with sterilized ballast water.
Our goal is to maintain the beauty and regional diversity of the oceans, and we are proud that our system can make a small contribution to those efforts.

BAWAC - Technology
Inside the BAWAC are seven fluid-cooled, metal steam burners. The seven burners are composed of the three major components:
High performance burner
• long life time
• high performance
• low energy consumption
Quartz glass
• surrounds cooling fluid
• high performance
Helix
• dynamic light distribution
• driven by ballast water
• indirect cooling of the burner
• mechanical support of the entire burner
• vibration damping for the quartz glass components
• continuous cleaning of the glass body
BAWAC - Facts
Optimal light yield is crucial to the efficiency of the ballast water cleaner. Conventional systems are unable to reflect the ultraviolet light. With its specially made coating and the rotating helix, the BAWAC system achieves optimal light efficiency.
The wiper blades in the helix are pressed against the quartz glass cylinder hydraulically as water passes through the system. This cleans the quartz glass permanently.
Thanks to its small size and the long maintenance intervals, the BAWAC system is particularly suited to retrofitting in existing ships.
